Therapy Intensives

Feel better faster.

Sometimes once a week isn't enough. This is for the moments when you need more — focused, uninterrupted work that goes deeper than weekly therapy allows.

A calm, open landscape

What is a therapy intensive?

A therapy intensive is focused, one-on-one therapy done in longer blocks over a short window — instead of a standing 50-minute session once a week. We take one thing you want to work on and give it real, uninterrupted time: extended two-hour working sessions, with a 90-minute pre-session to map the work and a 90-minute integration session to help it hold.

It's the same therapy I do every day — just concentrated. Instead of spreading progress across months, we go deep on one goal in a defined stretch of time.

Why it works — not just why it's convenient

Working this way isn't only easier to schedule. There's real research behind it.

You keep your momentum.

In weekly therapy, part of each session goes to catching back up, and progress can fade in the days between. Working in longer, back-to-back blocks keeps the thread — and research on intensive formats points to less avoidance and less loss of ground between sessions, two of the things that most often stall progress.

It can work as well as weekly — often faster.

For conditions like anxiety, trauma, and phobias, studies suggest intensive formats can be as effective as traditional weekly therapy, sometimes with faster relief. In one well-known study, exposure therapy delivered over about two weeks was as effective as the standard eight-week course (Foa et al., 2018).

It's easier to actually finish.

Life gets in the way of a weekly standing appointment, and many people stop before the work is done. A shorter, contained format can improve completion, especially for people with time constraints.

Psychology Today

This is for you if

  • 01You have something specific to work on — anxiety, a life transition, a long-standing pattern.
  • 02You want more depth than a weekly hour allows.
  • 03A standing weekly appointment is hard to sustain with your schedule.
  • 04You're preparing for, or recovering from, a significant life event.
  • 05You've done therapy before and want to go deeper on one thing, faster.

Is it right for you?

It may not be the right fit if you're in crisis or need steady, ongoing support — some situations call for a more gradual, longer-term approach. Not sure which you need? That's what the consult is for.

Common questions

Is this real therapy?+

Yes — the same evidence-based methods I use every day (CBT, ACT, and others), just delivered in a concentrated format.

Two hours sounds like a lot — will I leave wrecked?+

We pace the work, and every intensive is built to end with time to steady yourself before you step back into your day. The aim is depth, not overwhelm.

Do I need a diagnosis?+

No. You need something specific you're ready to work on.

Can I do this alongside my regular therapist?+

Yes. Many people use an intensive as focused work on one issue, alongside or between ongoing therapy. If it's helpful, I'll coordinate.

Is it online?+

Yes — intensives are virtual, across California.
